I started this adventure at the Chickamauga Dam. The water level was really high that day, about 60,000 cfs. The downstream paddle was pretty fast with the first stop at McClellan island. I ran a quick counter- clockwise lap around the island and back to the board. From there it was a sprint down to the Cooledge park boat ramp, got out, and stashed the board. Next up is a run through Cooledge Park, cross Frazier Ave. onto Spears, and cruise to T1, which is my house! At transition I grabbed the bike, running gear, fuel, and cranked up the hill to Stringers Ridge trailhead. I Stashed running gear and rode 2 laps of killer singletrack that got the heart rate going. Once back to the trailhead, I hid the bike and ran a lap in the opposite direction. Good news, at this point I’m half way and it’s time to reverse it all! After the run I got my bike and zoomed down the hill to T2, again my house… Time for more fuel, ditch the bike, and start the run back to Cooledge Park. Once I’m back at the river, it’s time to get ready for a mentally and physically challenging section. I paddle upstream to McClellan island, get another run lap in, then attain back up to the dam. This can be very difficult depending on the water level.
This is a super awesome course that showcases what can be done in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. From big water paddling, to exploring an island that is only accessible by boat, to fast flowing Mtn biking and trail running, this route has alittle bit of everything.
